When we imagine thrive, we imagine a state of heightened well-being.
When we are thriving, we are fully engaged, and we are purposeful in our pursuits. When we are engaged and purposeful, different possibilities and greater results are created.
If that is so, what then does thrive look like?
In order to have this conversation, we essentially look at five core pursuits. Pursuits that will contribute to well-being, that are interdependent of each other and yet on it's own, can be fulfilled and is meaningful.
The first core pursuit is Creating Happiness.
Happiness in our context, is an emotional state or well-being that is reflected by positive emotions, and not the emotion itself. Though a subjective measure, we use it to articulate many concepts that are relevant to us in defining what we would call an inspiring life.
Creating Happiness is to create a life that is inspiring, and fully lived.
The second core pursuit involves what we call showing up fully. It is taking on life fully, at a 100% and being fully engaged, as opposed to just watching from the sidelines. We don't get to experience life fully as observers - there is only one way to get the full experience, which is to be fully involved. This is the pursuit of the experience, firsthand and not just getting an account of an experience.
What is a game worth playing to you?
The third pursuit is finding the game that we are meant to play in our lifetime. The game that gives meaning to our lives, and serving a purpose that is bigger than ourselves. It is finding that game and being clear what that game is that creates alignment in all our pursuits, and we no longer have to consider earning a living, but simply focussing on the value that we can create in that game.
Human Beings are social creatures. We don't live alone, and though the desire to relate to other varies, the desire is there nevertheless.
The fourth pursuit is the pursuit of meaningful relationships. Relationships that are positive and edify us. Relationships that bring people together for the experiences that become especially meaningful when shared - times of both joy and sorrow, in sunshine and through storms.
The fifth and final pursuit is really in having a pursuit at all. Goals and getting to the goals keep us moving forward. Both the journey and the destination are matters of significance. Falling and geting up again are all parts of that journey, as well as the elation and joy of getting to the destination.
This is the pursuit that tell us who we ultimately are, how we might move forward to take things on, or how we might be stopped or defeated. In either case, the pursuit is in the pursuit itself, and having a pursuit at all - whether it's solving a daily crossword puzzle, or resolving the most complex of the world's problems.
These five pursuits, fully explored creates a playing field to fully articulate who we are individually. It creates opportunity for us to fully discover and explore our gifts, and how we will each in our own unique ways, take on these pursuits.
Understanding what each of these five pursuits are for us, will be getting clear on what it means to Create Thrive in our lives.
The ThriveNow! Framework and Programs were created to explore these pursuits both at work and in your personal lives. They were designed with the intention to expose and trigger the exploration of the pursuits and what it means for each individual in the different contexts of their lives.
In this endeavour, a new operational paradigm might be required - and this creates opportunity to explore new possibilities.
